We are a team of friends who wanted to make a difference, use our love of art, and spread healthy coping mechanisms. Our goals are aligned towards helping others open their minds to constructive living habits and spreading love.
At CMU, our heart is in the work, but our hearts are still growing and exploring a lot at the same time. A space and time slot dedicated to self care would be extremely beneficial to the mental health stigma that plagues our campus and many others. We all cope in different ways, and they are frequently un-sustainable or unhealthy. People don’t listen to their bodies until they are forced to take care of them. Our goal is to provide space, materials, and time to explore what healing looks like to an individual. Ideally, everyone walks away with a method of relaxing/distracting/coping/whatever-word-makes-sense that benefits one’s personal life.
Mental health is a growing issue and we believe that prevention is just as important as treatment. Taking agency of your own mental health at a place like CMU is the best way to prevent crises. We want to provide students with the opportunity to cope with whatever issue might arise in life. This class is for our community, and we want to thank everyone who supports our efforts. Any donations will go directly towards supplies for art therapy activities.
