Future Tenant Moving Campaign
FUTURE TENANT is a 15 year-old arts organization run by Carnegie Mellon Master of Arts Management students. initially run by CFA graduate students under the direction of Bob Bingham, who we collaborated with to provide administrative support for their artwork Future Tenant has grown into a force of its own. Our mission is to provide a laboratory setting for arts managers, artists, and audiences to explore the limits of creative expression. This means that every year, a group of CMU graduate students take on the challenge of running a small non-profit arts organization. It means we take the skills and concepts we learn in the classroom: including strategy, marketing, fundraising, and team-building, and apply it in a real-world setting. We collaborate with emerging artists to present new and exciting works to our Pittsburgh audience. In order to accomplish this mission we have a standing partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, who provides us with an exhibition and performing arts space. With this provided location, Future Tenant brings arts and culture to a place that would otherwise be vacant.
In the past, Future Tenant has inhabited several different spaces. For the past ten years, we have been located at 819 Penn Avenue. Due to planned construction on the block of 9th Street and Penn Avenue, Future Tenant will be moving to a new location at 810 Liberty Avenue. This crowdfunding campaign would give us the funds to move our existing supplies and equipment from 819 Penn to 818 Liberty, as well as renovate the 810 Liberty space to make it habitable and usable for our organization's purposes.
In this new location, we hope to continue to present new and exciting works, as well as expand our capacity to produce multiple exhibitions and performances simultaneously. This would include the addition of a permanent performing arts venue, a dedicated visual arts gallery, and a concessions area. However, before we can do this, there are some basics we need to install. With your help you’ll be providing us with the funds to move our existing equipment from our current building, and install adequate lighting, new flooring, and walls for displaying art in our new location. We will be well on our way to accomplishing these goals by reaching our crowdfunding goal of $5,000, which is part of our larger $12,000 goal to completely fund the move and the remodel. The remaining funds will be raised through two events in our current space, as well as money donated through the Carnegie Mellon Heinz School Master of Arts Management Program.
As students, Future Tenant provides us with a once in a lifetime opportunity to get practical experience in our chosen field while still in school. It is also unique among peer institutions from across the country. With your generous donations you are helping create the next generation of future arts leaders, future artists, and future audiences in a unique and educational environment.
Thank you for your time, and thank you for your support!
