CMU AIAS Conferences 2020-2021
We are the Carnegie Mellon University Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students, otherwise known as AIAS. Our chapter works to cultivate an enriching and collaborative architecture-studio space, as well as work to connect students with other architecture students & professionals around the world. Every year, there are a handful of conferences that bring together the national organization for a weekend of discourse, learning, and engagement.
The biggest of these conferences is AIAS Forum; during this conference, the AIAS collects in one city over the winter holiday to network, hear from our sponsors, learn from other leaders, discuss issues relevant to architecture and design education, and conduct official AIAS business. This is the highlight of every year, as we get to spend a weekend with students professionals who share the same view and an opportunity to network with professionals in the industry.
These conferences, come with a price tag, as registration, hotel, and travel come out of the organization & our students' pockets. Every year, the price shifts slightly, as the conference moves cities every year; however, the cost for the conference can range anywhere from $400 - $700 per student. This has not only limited us to a small number of students we can bring to these conferences, but the price tag has also disinclined some students from this amazing experience. In the past, we have had students become elected to national positions in the AIAS, students make life-long friends and mentors with students and professionals in the national organization, and even had students secure vital jobs & internships at these conferences. With your help, we hope to begin our financial efforts to help bring as many CMU AIAS members to AIAS Forum 2020!
*Given the current restrictions on travel and large gatherings, CMU AIAS may not be able to attend conferences this year.
If they are not able to attend, all funds raised will remain with the club to be used for a similar purpose going forward.*
