CMU Sahara, Carnegie Mellon’s only co-ed Bollywood-fusion dance team, was founded four years ago when students were looking for a type of dance that allowed them to connect to their favorite Bollywood classics while also mixing in modern hip-hop. We practice four days a week and sometimes are in the studio until 2 am trying to perfect our moves for the next competition. We usually compete in 3-4 competitions a season, usually in the months of February - April.
The most rewarding moment of our season is when we, as a team, get to go to competitions and show off our Carnegie Mellon brand. We love to band together as a family and compete alongside the best teams in the nation. That being said, it’s very difficult for us to attend these competitions as hotel and transportation costs drive up the price significantly. On top of transportation and shelter, we have other logistical costs including application fees, set production, and costumes. With costs increasing every season, we simply don’t have the finances to attend our usual 3-4 competitions. The goal of this project is to raise enough money so that we can continue to compete and hopefully, attend Legends, the “finals” of our dance circuit.
Your contributions will be used to cover application fees, hotels, transportation, vehicle rent costs, costumes, equipment, and more. As we are one of the many dance teams on campus, we don’t receive much aid from the university. We are grateful to all friends and family who are willing to relieve our financial burden even by the smallest amount. From our entire dance team, we would like to take the time to thank your generosity and support.
