CMU Showcase 2016

We are the graduating class of 2016 at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. We are comprised of 71 undergraduate and graduate students, who have traveled from all over the world to study and explore the dramatic arts in Pittsburgh with the best teachers in the industry. At the School of Drama, courses of study include Acting, Music Theater, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Sound Design, Video and Media Design, Directing, Dramaturgy, Costume Production, Stage and Production Management, Technical Direction, and Dramatic Writing.

During our time here, we have formed an artistic family founded on collaboration, risk, imagination, love, and the hunger to create. We push ourselves to go beyond what is expected, exposing our most vulnerable sides to explore the spectrum of society and humanity. With the support of our peers and faculty, and our commitment to excellence, we rise to our challenges until they become our successes.

Showcase is an opportunity for the graduating class to display skills gained during their time at Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. It is a presentation to industry professionals in Pittsburgh, New York, and Los Angeles and is meant to help launch graduating students’ careers. Agents, managers, producers, designers, and many other theater practitioners and entertainment professionals are invited to witness the culmination of our training at Carnegie Mellon.

Performers prepare scenes, monologues, and songs, while designers, directors, writers, and managers will create portfolios of their talents. Showcase provides us an incredible chance to build connections that would otherwise take years to form and to find the representation that will allow us to continue to follow our dreams and passions beyond our time spent at Carnegie Mellon.

We are creating this Crowdfunding campaign in order to help raise the monies needed to produce the 2016 Showcase. A lot of preparation is necessary to make Showcase a successful endeavour including reserving theater spaces and advertising to professionals in the industry. Additionally, we incur the expenses of traveling to New York and Los Angeles.

In total, the class of 2016 is responsible for raising $55,000. Over the first semester through many different means, ranging from cabarets to presentations of original work, the class managed to raise a little over a fifth of the funds needed. Currently, there are many events in the works to help contribute to Showcase, but time is running out! Crowdfunding has the potential to greatly increase our chances of raising the $55,000, and ensure the class of 2016 an amazing Showcase.

We look to you for help now! The class of 2016 is asking for donations to help make Showcase a reality. For the next 30 days, from February 18 to March 19, we will be accepting donations to reach our goal of $10,000. No donation is too small (...or too large)! We did the math: if all 71 of us share this Crowdfunding link to 100 people each, that’s 7100 people. If those 7100 people donate just $1.50, then we will reach our goal! You can contribute any amount and make a very large impact on our success. There is no way any of us could have gotten to this point without the support of those who love and believe in us, and now, we’re turning to you all for help one more time.

In total, we have to raise $55,000 in order for Showcase to happen. Our goal is for this Crowdfunding campaign to significantly increase our chances of going to Showcase by raising $10,000, a fifth of the total needed funds.

As you can see, Showcase is an expensive endeavor. Here’s exactly what your donations are helping us obtain:

  • Reservation at the Snapple Theater in New York

  • Reservation at the Matrix Theatre in Los Angeles

  • Room and board

  • Flight Reservations

All the money we raise will go directly toward producing Showcase. If we happen to go past our goal of $10,000, we will continue to accept donations until our 60 day period is up. And don’t forget to check out the perks of donating certain amounts!
