MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference
The Tartan Sports Analytics Club (TSAC) is a student-run sports statistics club which uses in-depth quantitative data to develop our members’ understanding of sports analytics, strategies, and management. Members actively research and write articles on a variety of sports, develop leadership skills, and participate in analytics competitions. We were founded in November 2013 and recognized as a club on campus in the Spring semester of 2015.
The MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference (SSAC) is an annual showcase of the different aspects of the sports analytics industry. The conference goal is to provide a forum for industry professionals (executives and leading researchers) and students to discuss the increasing role of analytics in the global sports industry. MIT Sloan is dedicated to fostering growth and innovation in this arena, and the conference enriches opportunities for learning about the sports business world. It is open to anyone interested in sports, and this year will be the first time our members will be able to attend. Attending this conference will have an unparalleled impact to our growing club, and we hope to use the experiences from the conference to better lead and teach current and future TSAC members.

SSAC provides an incredible opportunity for our club to develop through in-depth lectures, networking, competitions, and career opportunities. Amongst the speakers at this year's conference are: Adam Silver (NBA Commissioner), Bob Myers (Golden State Warriors General Manager), and Priya Narasimhan (CEO, founder of YinzCam and CMU alumnus), and many more. The panels scheduled for this year's conference are equally impressive, covering topics such as: wearable technology for athletes, accelerating the pace of soccer analytics, and designing the stadium of the future (again, just to name a few). The research showcase of the conference allows us to learn from our peers and accelerate our own club's research to eventually present research of our own at future conferences. Furthermore, SSAC this year will have a hackathon the night before the conference and various competitions during, giving TSAC a chance to exercise the interdisciplinary skills our diverse group possesses. Finally, this year's conference will even have dedicated panels and boards for career opportunities from the sponsoring companies and sports teams.
We would like to send 6 members to SSAC which requires funding our young club does not yet have. This includes airfare, hotel reservations, and registration which sum up to about $4000:
- Registration: $200/person
- 2 night hotel stay: $200/person
- Airfare: $300/person
For the 6 students who will attend, that is a total of $1200 + $1200 + $1800 = $4200
Thank you very much for taking the time to read about our club and our project. We appreciate any donations you feel appropriate and would like to thank you in advance for your support.
