About Us
Global Brigades is a global health and sustainable development organization that takes a holistic approach, collectively implementing health, economic, and educational initiatives to reach a community’s goals. Global Medical Brigades provides sustained healthcare to communities through mobile-clinics, organized with the help of community leaders and volunteers. This year, the organization is working with volunteers virtually in order to ensure we can still safely provide medical care through these challenging times.
In February 2021 our members will go on our first tele-brigade, providing the sustainable healthcare solutions for rural communities in Honduras and enacting Global Brigades’ holistic approach to improving health, all while mitigating the spread of COVID-19 abroad and at home.
Our Project
The primary goal of the brigade is to provide basic medical care to individuals without healthcare access. During the brigade, students will virtually interact with community members and medical professionals, shadowing and consulting with doctors, hosting education sessions called “charla” about sanitation and dental hygiene practice and analyzing the unique challenges of the community. Brigaders are trained throughout the year in the Spanish Honduran language and culture, allowing us to better address the community’s needs and promote effective, culturally sensitive care.
The money raised from CMU Crowdfunding will go towards preparing the medical clinic organized by Global brigades that consists of doctors and health workers in Honduras which we will work with virtually. The funds also cover the cost of supplies and medications that are distributed to the patients during the brigade.
Why Contribute
Throughout the year, we apply for several grants and scholarships, and hold numerous fundraising events. Still, we struggle to raise enough to provide full care to all that come to the clinic.
The funds received will alleviate the cost of the clinic that is placed on our brigaders, making the brigade possible for our members. Your contribution goes towards the donation goal each of our members needs to cover which Global Brigades uses in order to host the medical clinic and healthcare workers. By helping GMB, you will provide students with an experience in humanitarian aid and ensure the basic right to health for thousands of individuals.
