Celebrating Professor Christian Hallstein’s Retirement!
About the Project
Professor Christian Hallstein retired from Carnegie Mellon in the spring semester of last academic year, having spent his entire teaching career in CMU’s Department of Modern Languages. With over 40 years of memories as a faculty member in the German Program, Professor Hallstein found Carnegie Mellon to be a stimulating and rewarding teaching atmosphere. In 1992, Professor Hallstein was recognized by Carnegie Mellon University for his exceptional work with his students, receiving the William H. and Frances S. Ryan Award for Meritorious Teaching. Looking back on his time at CMU, Professor Hallstein noted that his “students were so remarkable: intelligent, dedicated, inquisitive, and optimistic about their future. These are qualities that are not found at all universities.”
Our Project
In honor of Professor Hallstein, we will be raising funds to promote the study of German language and culture by supporting current CMU undergraduate students studying abroad in Germany, as well as German cultural engagement activities in the Pittsburgh-area such as films, theater, visits to exhibitions, etc.
Why Contribute
Please consider supporting this crowdfunding campaign with a gift at any level. Over the last 40+ years, Professor Hallstein has shared his love and enthusiasm for German language and culture with his students. With your support, we hope to give future undergraduate students an opportunity to develop and cultivate a similar passion. On behalf of the entire Modern Languages Department, thank you for your support and for helping us honor Professor Hallstein’s accomplishments over his career!
