About Us

We are Carnegie Mellon Rowing, a club sport of 40+ individuals committed to the sport of rowing. Our members come from all walks of life and academic disciplines, and although nearly all new rowers have no prior experience, we are a competitive program representing our college at local and national regattas.

During the fall and spring, we hit the river at 5:30am, six days a week for early morning practice, and train indoors on the erg during the winter. With COVID-19 cancelling three seasons of racing and severely limiting practice time, we are eager to rebound into the new year.

Our Project

This year, we are seeking $5,000 towards making our club more inclusive to prospective rowers. We will be purchasing a set of sculling oars to facilitate getting new rowers out on their own per COVID guidelines and contracting a bus for transportation to/from the boathouse, so novices no longer need to run ~5 miles just to attend practice. Additionally, as part of our commitment towards diversity & inclusion (DEI), we may need funds to obtain Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) and other equipment to reduce the barriers of entry to the sport of rowing.

Why Contribute

We are a relatively small crew of highly-motivated individuals that often outperforms much larger programs. Prior to the pandemic, the team saw the largest increase in membership in recent history. We aim to continue expansion, acquiring equipment so everyone gets time on the water.

But as a club sport, we receive less funding than varsity athletics, and must cover the costs of equipment, travel, etc. through dues and crowdfunding. The continued support of alumni and generous donors keeps our boat afloat, and we are eternally grateful. Please consider contributing to our crowdfunding campaign to help support us into the future.
